What I love about these oud sticks is that they allow me to enjoy oud without getting messy with charcoal. We have had agarwood ground into a powder and pressed into a stick, which can be lit directly, omitting the need to use another medium to burn it.
Once you have a suitable stick holder to capture any residue whilst the stick gently burns, there is no faffing around after that. You simply place the stick in the holder, light the stick, (any lighter designed for personal use will do), let it burn for a second or two then blow it out.
When we timed it in store a number of time the sticks regularly burned for us at a rate of 50-55 mins per stick. That’s around 33 hours per pack, based on each pack having a minimum of 36 sticks in it. At £24.99 that’s less than £1 per stick. Having said that in our last production run, I have found packs commonly having been packed with 40-50 sticks for some reason so don’t be surprised if you end up getting more than you paid for!
When this burns in store the soft earthy scent of organic agarwood draws people in , asking what’s that soft but deep smell? It’s not often agarwood (oud) gets described as soft. Usually its because when oud is blended with something the intention is to form a heady or intense blend and intensify a scent. Similarly, when used as a room fragrance and burned through the use of heating coal; a very intense scent is produced. Finally, when synthetic materials are used to mimic agarwood they are quite strong too, in order to disguise the quality difference. So, the association between oud and intense deep scents is very widespread.
The less well known secret about agarwood is that as a raw ingredient, when not pressed into an oil or concentrated down, or mimicked….. naturally, it can be soft, and beautifully soft. That is what these oud sticks allow you to experience. Our premium organic agarwood oud sticks will caress you with their scent in a softer way than you’re probably used to with oud.
Finally, what I would ask you to do with these sticks to truly appreciate them is to avoid standing over them, immediately after lighting them and start sniffing straight away. It’s tempting I know, (I’ve done it too!), but they smell better after letting them burn for a few minutes, allowing the scent to disperse and waft through the air. At that point leave the room, and re-enter . The walk up to the gently burning stick is beautifully sweet and smells alot better than when you stand over it immediately after lighting it. If you want to do that afterwards to compare and experience the difference you are most welcome to, but remember, the reception these give as you walk into a room is definitely the best way to enjoy them… (in my humble opinion and personal experience!).
In all this time of judging and smelling scents, if I’ve learnt anything it’s to not judge them until I’ve really spent some time with them and got to know them better than just the first impression they give!
As for the holder, although lightweight, this handy home accessory is freestanding. The Gold Colour and Lace design, inspired by Eastern Influences almost always gets a wow reaction and makes a stunning addition to any room.
The fact that it fully encases the burning scented sticks makes it friendly for homes with young children and/or pets. Although, (let me cover my back here), never leave your children or pets unattended when burning a home fragrance.
There’s five slots inside which allow you to burn multiple sticks in one go and if you’re feeling adventurous you can easily layer scents to create you own room fragrance cocktail.
I personally wouldn’t burn more than three in one instance of any type of scent but it’s a useful feature to have to be able to decide how many sticks to burn at once; whether that’s the same scent to play on strength and intensity or different scents to enjoy intertwining layers of room fragrance.
